Exercise 2 from M. Imran Shahid

Exercise 2

1) Which funding sources are you most likely going to tap into for your grant seeking? (Refer to private, public or alternative and please describe.)
In my grant seeking, I would like to use the funding sources Private and Alternative both. Because it is my experience that when we design a proposal 100% fund does not receive from donor only 60 to 80 percent there is share of donor and remaining 20 to 40 percent contribute the organization and community. So, I think I have to use both sources of funding private and alternative.
2) As mentioned above, alternative fundraising can be a very important part of raising funds. What are some unique ways that you or someone you know has fundraised? Could you apply these methods to your current project?
There are ten executive members of my organization beside this they are social workers they have their own business and some have jobs. We have a rule in our organization that every executive member contribute (500) five hundred rupees every month. By the contribution of all executive members we have (10,000) ten thousand rupees every month beside this we have membership fee. When a new member joins our organization he or she has to pay (500) five hundred rupees as membership fee. When our organizations have a project, we invite our members to work in the project to the relevant post. In every project, there is an 80 or 90 percent contribution of donor and 10 to 20 percent share is from our organization. I would also apply these methods to my current project for the success and sustainability of the project.
3) Identify at least two funding sources (different from the ones identified in Question 2) from the categories discussed in this module that might be appropriate for the kind of project/program that you plan to fundraise (Please take the time to do this research!)
The advocacy program that is am planning it could be funding from Interact worldwide and also from Department for International Development (DFID) these funding sources already funding us in Female Sex Workers Project it title is “Prevention and control of HIV, AIDS and STIs among FSWs of Okara City” beside above two donors Global Youth Coalition on HIV and AIDS (GYCA) and Oxfam can also donate me for this advocacy plan.
4) Once you have identified these sources, please answer the following:
a) Does this source provide funding for short-term projects, long-term projects or both?
I have identified more than one donor some of them provide fund for short-term programs and some could make fund for long-term programs.
b) Is this source located within your local vicinity? (i.e. will you be able to visit it in person?)
A few of them located within my local vicinity but most of them are international donors.
c) Identify a contact person with whom you might share your grant proposal. Who is this person? Do you have a contact email or phone number?
Raja Khalid Mehmood
President Pakistan National AIDS Consortium
Email: rajakhalid@pnac.net.pk
Web: www.pnac.net.pk

5) What are some ways that you foresee yourself networking with potential funders? Are there any local/national events at which these funders will be and that you can possibly attend?
The above written donors are International but they have their sub-offices in our Capital Islamabad I can’t visit all the donors in personally I can contact them with Telephone or Mail and big source is through email.
We celebrate International Candlelight Day every year and this year we would also celebrate, in this programme we should invite these donors and I hope some of them would come in this programme and I have a time to present my plans.
